Moses Melkonian – Beirut Lights
February 4, 2012 § 24 Comments
I’m back in the UK after a great trip with my family to the French Alps (more later…)
For now I wanted to give you guys the back story to the folk song ‘Beirut Lights.’
I wrote it in a little hostel in Beirut, the melody kept creeping into my mind throughout my trip…
All these photo’s were taken with my canon 300D in 2010
Road tripping is a casual thing in Lebanon. The sun sets on a long drive east, to the mountains…
We stop off for a coffee. A Bedouin and Beiruti exam out attire, we get talking and drink together… A cultural crossroad, A place of many secrets.
Epic ruins of a by gone age stand tall in empty plateau’s among mountains carved out by great storms many ages ago… Lebanon is a land of great history.
We navigate our way back to Beirut, through narrow mountain passes, and across open plains.
We picked up some soon-to-be buddies and hit the famous Beirut rooftop bars for a night I will never forget.
The next morning was hazy. I wondered Hama and admired the elegant Parisian / Maronite architecture… only in Beirut.
Lebanese families greet the morning, very casually, very Lebanese, no rush, just sunshine and smiles
The sun set’s in our palms. The night is ours, we were mighty were young…
This is an amazing photo chronicle! I especially like the shot of the ruins, the pillars are stunning! Thank you for sharing. #salute

my next road trip…thanks Moses…
Beautiful SONG !!!!! WOW ———— 🙂
Stunning! Merci for sharing!
This was a cool post, a very interesting story told. The pictures were very nice, and the one with the sunset in your friend’s hand was so surreal. I was told by someone that I should go to Beirut once when I was thinking about vacation spots. When I asked why, I was told that it has a lot of history. From your pictures, it definitely seems that it does and has me interested in possibly going someday.
Hey. Sorry to be out of synch (very nice collection of images here), but I was just watching your film about the Birds Nest. It’s really wonderful. Thanks for putting it on line.
Thanks! That orphanage is a very special place for me…. It is where my father was taken care of and survivors of the genocide were able to start a new life for themselves…. Thanks for watching x
Reblogged this on Technospunky blah blah blogging on wordpress.
I am/was planning to go to Beirut this summer. Then I read that the official travel advisory is not very positive… And now with things heating up again in Siria… I just don’t know anymore. Any advice is welcome.
the whole damn world is heating up…I say go to Beirut.
Lebanon is safe just stay clear of the south and the israeli border. There may be an influx of syrian refugees, but most reporters are in Beirut getting news on Syria as its safe. Beirut is a fantastic city with lots of culture and nightlife…. The country as a whole has so many beautiful sights, from snowy mountain peaks to warm fishing villages (Byblos) where I shot the documentary film, the birds nest in byblos. GO x
Awesome photos. I especially loved the one of the sun setting in the palm of someone’s hand.
That song is absolutely stunning! I love this post – it is so cool getting the back story along with some gorgeous imagery to go along with the song!
You can see why I love Lebanon so much… X
Loved the pics….glad you made it back to the UK safely….
Wow, you are very handsome, if you didn’t know already. Sorry to be so shallow 🙂
great photos and very beautiful song Moses!
Peace
